A Passion for Learning & Teaching

Knowledge = Power

I have always loved to write for as long as I can remember.  Starting with my first entry into the pink, puffy “Hello Kitty” journal I was a “writer.” Growing up in Southern California I devoured books and enrolled in countless writing courses, learned how to write, honed my skills as a writer, and learned that I had a “real knack” for it. My love for writing mirrored my overall love for learning as I excelled in all subjects in school, but particularly English. I wanted to study writing and English in college but my parents, with their traditional Asian values, did not approve and expected me to seek a science related field “to secure a good job.” I honored their request by graduating with an advanced degree of Master of Occupational Therapy, but my love for writing stayed with me like a loyal friend. It accompanied me to college by way of my personal statement, it was instrumental in helping me win grants and scholarships to pay for school, it transformed me into a competitive candidate for graduate school, and it dutifully provided me with a solid dissertation to help me secure my graduate degree, thereby allowing me to have a successful career in the medical field of my choice. Writing continues as a passion for me to this day, as it gives me the confidence to write concise therapeutic notes, articulate professionally written communications to my peers and colleagues, and is an integral part of my life that has contributed to my personal and professional success. I noticed while hiring new employees and interacting with multiple professionals in many disciplines, that many (maybe even most) lacked strong writing skills that was getting in the way of reaching their full potential for success.  What began as just helping friends and colleagues turned it into a passion and mission to teach and coach others on effective, creative, and life changing reading and writing skills – no matter their age level, educational arc, or even life journey – KP Learning Services!

Kyle N.

I am a high school student entering 10th grade this school year  . . . Thanks to two years of language arts tutoring with Kim, I now feel totally prepared for whatever my highschool english course throws at me.  She always takes the time to listen to me and to gather insight into my academic strengths and weaknesses and shows me options instead of just telling me if I am right or wrong like in basic classroom experience. Before I started working with her I had been struggling with my english classes and my overall writing skills due to class sizes and the inherent  stress of the California school systems.  As I started to get tutored, Kim helped me with my vocabulary, with writing exercises, with exploring my creativity and to learn a lot more about what I needed to do to be a good writer. She helped teach me many simple yet effective tips and tricks to make my writing better such as not writing the way I speak, using a thesaurus to help express what I am writing to the reader, and writing down my ideas down on a seperate piece of paper then incorporating them into my writing instead of just adding whatever I feel. These tips have helped me countless times as a student and writer and with her help reviewing, revising and thinking through my prose I have grown as a student and communicator and have been able to accomplish my goal of getting an A student in english for the last two academic school years.
